Obituary of Margarete Heide
Margarete Heide of Endicott
You can shed a tear that she is gone, or you can smile because she lived. We will celebrate her life and what she has taught us. Margarete Heide passed away on June 14, 2010 at Good Shepherd Village surrounded by her loving family. She has now been reunited with her loving husband Gerhard, of thirty-one years. Born Margarete Helene Rosner to Louisa and Otto Rosner in Ost Preusen, Germany on February 7, 1927, Margarete married Gerhard F. P. Heide and immigrated to the United States in 1956, where they raised their three children. She is survived by her daughter, Christiane Ellman Curit; her grandson Andre Ellman, and great-grandson Aiden Ellman of Albany, NY; her daughter Cornelia Downs (Christopher) and their children Erik and Kiersten of Endicott, NY; and her son Michael Heide and his sons Brian and Derek of Endicott, NY. She also leaves behind her eldest sister Elfriede Rothemeyer, nephews Bernd and Frank, and her sisters Anna Muller and Elsbet of Germany. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Germany. She was predeceased by her brothers Emil, Paul, and Kurt. Margarete also leaves behind many friends that she met through the years while working at Elks Bakery and IBM. She enjoyed many years of traveling and going to the Opera at the Metropolitan with her very special friend Helmut Lorenz and his family. Margarete will be best remembered for her infectious laugh, uncanny wit, and her tremendous strength and determination. Her smile brightened any room and she will be in our hearts forever.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Wasco, Cathy Slocum, and the staff of Good Shepherd Fairview Home and Good Shepherd Village, for their wonderful care and compassion. Calling hours will take place at Coleman-Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St. Endicott on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 4 to 6 pm with a service to immediately follow. A private family service will take place on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Riverhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to YesterYears or the Southern Tier Heart and Stroke Association.
