Obituary of Betty J. Dyer
Betty J. Dyer of Maine, N.Y.
"Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6. Betty J. Dyer, 82, the Matriarch of the Dyer family and spiritual mentor to all who knew her went Home to the loving arms of the Lord and to her husband, Ray, on Tuesday, October 21. Her family held her and loved her as she went to her Heavenly home. A woman of beauty, grace and quiet dignity, Betty daily walked the walk of faith in her Lord. Our hearts on earth are broken but the portals of Heaven are rejoicing at her Homecoming. Betty is predeceased by her parents, Olen and Mabel Vergason; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Emerson Sterling, Kathryn and Bill Fenton; her brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Nina Vergason. She is survived by her loving and adoring family: her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Diane Dyer, Newark Valley; her daughter, Debra Dyer, Keuka Park; her grandchildren, Brent Dyer, Michele Darling, Christopher Dyer, Davra and Michael San Angelo, Lynley Walter, Tanner Fenton, Tom and Stephanie Krmenec, and Jake Fiala; her great-grandchildren, Joshua, Carissa, Brendan, Madison and Isabella; her very special nephews and their wives, David and Bonnie Stastyshyn, Danny and Michelle Stastyshyn, Brian and Loraine Fenton, Mark (Herman) Madama; her sister and brother-in-law Dawn and John Racine; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merritt and Janet Dyer, Roger and Shary Dyer, Joan Vergason; her faithful companions, Bentley, Sampson and Talia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty had a large circle of friends and many of them were friendships spanning 70-plus years - Nancy Michael, Marge Treat, Vivian Herlihy and Betty Welch. The family wants to thank the Lourdes ICU and Hospice for their loving, dignified care of our Mom. Betty - with great business acumen - was the co-owner, with her son Gary, of Gary Dyer Excavating, Inc. Previously, she was in business with her husband, Ray. She was the original co-owner with her son of the Log Cabin Plaza in Union Center. Betty was a lifetime active member of the Union Center Christian Church, beginning as the church pianist and organist at age 11. The last four years of her life were spent using her incredible musical talent as the pianist at Glen Aubrey Baptist Church. For many years in the 1970's-1990's Betty was the pianist for The Believers Quartet, performing in the Northeast and Canada. She influenced many lives as a Sunday School teacher and Awana leader at Union Center.
