Obituary of Robert E. Ross

Robert E. Ross of Vestal Robert E. Ross, 81, went to be with the Lord on Friday July 9th, 2010 at his home in Vestal, NY. He was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Edith Ross and his brother Kenneth Ross. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan Ross, his sister Elda Hall, his children Susan Groff, David Ross, Elizabeth (Betsy) Truman, and Debbie Meara and his nine grandchildren. Bob graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1946. He joined the US Airforce and served three years. He received his Teaching Degree from Broom Tech (BCC), Hartwick College, and Albany University. He taught science for 34 years at Vestal Central Schools. Bob held various positions in the Vestal Teachers Association, including Chief Negotiator, and President. He was also President of the Southern Zone of N.Y.S.T.A. He was on the Board of Directors for N.E.A. for 10 years. He also served on the Executive Board for 7 years. He retired from teaching in 1988. He then became an active member of New York State Retired Teachers Association serving as a delegate. He served as a Chairman for the Southern Zone Resolution Committee and Legislation Committee. Bob's favorite pastime was golf and rooting for the Yankees and the Giants. The family will receive friends at the Vestal United Methodist Church, Main Street, in Vestal on Saturday July 17th from 10-11am. A memorial service will immediately follow. After the service, come join the family for a Celebration of Life luncheon which will take place in the Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, you may make monetary donations to the American Cancer Society or to the Vestal United Methodist Church.
