Obituary of Donald H Blackwell

Donald Harold Blackwell Donald Harold Blackwell, 80, passed away in his sleep August 20th at the Vestal Nursing Center with family by his side. He was predeceased by his mother, Mildred and father, Harold, plus many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lorry McConnon Blackwell; three daughters, Becky (Mark) Merges, Bonny (Robb) Kowalewski, and Arlene Martin and family. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and "Sandie" Blackwell. He also leaves five beloved granddaughters; Molly and Raegan Merges, Vestal; Halle, Brynn and Fallon Kowalewski, Anthem, AZ. He was "Uncle Don" to Mark, Kelly, and Randy and was loved by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Don was a graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy and was a pharmacist for many years, 37 of them being at Lourdes Hospital. He loved his work and got up many nights to drive to the hospital to fill a prescription for an incoming patient. He was a member of the Endicott Lions Club International for over fifty years and served from Secretary to President. Don was an avid bowler and was a member of the Endicott Bowler's Association where he also held many offices. He received many awards and presentations throughout the years from the community. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan as a pharmacist. In later years, he was extremely active in the B.C. Open although he was not a golfer. Much time was spent on his computer, although he always told his girls "this is not a toy for games." For the last three years he was a resident of Vestal Nursing Center where he received loving care and attention. We thank them all. I am sure they will remember him "scooting" down the halls in his wheelchair and at times advising them how to dispense medicine. We will miss you, Don. Rest in Peace. Funeral and Interment Services will be held Wednesday at 6PM from the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 300 East Main St, Endicott. The Rev. David C. Seaver Chaplain of Spiritual Care at Lourdes Hospital will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park at the Convenience of the Family. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 p.m. until service time at 6. Those wishing may make contributions in Don's memory to the Charity of Ones Choice.
