Obituary of Dorothy Shirley

Dorothy Shirley of Vestal Dorothy Shirley, 82, of Vestal, NY, went to be with the Lord, Friday, September 17, 2010 at Wilson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert Shirley; son, Richard Shirley; daughter, Agnes Shoemaker; and her parents, LeRoy and Hannah Bloom. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Birchard of Apalachin, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Marigene Shirley of Friendsville, PA; son-in-law, Ronald Shoemaker, Binghamton, NY; grandchildren: Cynthia Shoemaker, Victoria Irish, Adam Shirley, Rebecca and Gary Scales, Shawn and Patty Birchard, Todd and Karen Birchard, Sherri Shoemaker, Rick Shoemaker, Mindy and John Webb, Holly and Bill Barrows and Shannon and Eric Lotz. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter whom she truly loved and adored. Dorothy was the heart and soul of this large close-knit family. She is best known for her sense of humor and ability to make everyone laugh. Dorothy spent her whole life taking care of others. She retired from Interim Healthcare in 1995. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010, at Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Tower of Memories. The Memorial Service will immediately follow. The family would like to thank Dr. Remakus; the Critical Care Unit & the staff on South Tower 3 at Wilson Hospital for the dedicated care and compassion that they not only gave our Mother, but our family as well. A special thank you to the Aides at Vestal Nursing Center for loving our Mom and Grandma.
