George H. Riechers, 88, of Vestal, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the Vestal Nursing Center. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Riechers. He is survived by his wife, Isabel of Vestal; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Sam Miller of Vestal Center; brother, Robert Riechers of Endicott; several nieces, nephews and cousins; also his Church family at Hope Congregational Church in Afton; Marion Tracy and Fisher Families, Amanda Fisher, who was like a granddaughter to George; special friends, Charles Kneller, Tim and Brenda Hayes, and Avis Robble; also his friends at Pete's Legacy Diner and the Skylark Diner. He was a member of the Hope Congregational Church, Afton, a retired employee of IBM Endicott and a member of its Quarter Century Club, and a veteran of WWII serving in the US Marine Corps, where he received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He had four battle stars. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and a life member of the American Legion, a life member of Otseningo Lodge #435 F&AM, and a member of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Assn. A special thank you to the Vestal Nursing Center for their loving care of George. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal. The Rev Ernest Stephenson, Rev. George Garrison and Rev. MaryAnn Palmatier will co-officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery where full Military Honors will be accorded by the Broome County Veterans Memorial Assn. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at 2. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hope Congregational Church, 129 Main St., Afton, NY 13730.
