Obituary of Robert P. Hedden

Robert P. Hedden Jr. Bob passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 very suddenly due to cancer. Bob was fortunate to live a very healthy life right up to his last week of life. He worked as an Associate Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. He had pursued a passionate career in the National Guard and Army Reserve and had transferred to the Retired Reserve in 2010 after 29 years of service. Bob was proud to have served during Iraqi Freedom, at the World Trade Center following 9/11 and on a humanitarian mission in Guatemala. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded numerous U.S. Decorations and Badges along with NYARNG Decorations. Bob was a very caring son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle and friend to many. He was exceptionally conscientious to maintain communications with all of his family and friends while deployed in Iraq. Bob loved all of his family dearly. He was an extremely generous, grateful, intelligent and introspective person. Throughout his life he was deeply spiritual. He contemplated the meaning of life and happiness. Even when critically ill, Bob was brave and at peace. Bob leaves behind his parents, Robert and Louise (Dempsey) Hedden, Sr., Wellesley Island, NY; siblings, Walter Hedden, Wellesley Island NY and Mary Lou Scheffield and her husband Eric, Binghamton; and nephews, Nathan, Benjamin and Matthew Scheffield, Binghamton; and a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760 from 6:00-9:00 pm Friday, October 22nd. Saturday, October 23rd, the family will hold visitation at the St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Avenue, Endicott from 10:00 -11:00 am to be followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to the American Legion Post 80, 76 Robinson Street, Binghamton, NY 13905. The Family wishes to express its' deep appreciation to the staff at both Lourdes and Wilson Hospitals and especially to Bob's ICU nurse, Courtney, for the compassionate care Bob received.
