Fell asleep January 2, 2011 at Lourdes Hospital. "When Death plucked at my sleeve, it's time to bid farewell to my family, friends and acquaintances. I leave my wife Pauline Patinka Arnold, my companion for 62 years" daughters, Kathleen Neil Surina (Vil) Endwell and Linda van der Wal (Jos) the Netherlands and sons, Richard D. (Wendy) Owego, David E. (Linda) Hercules, CA; grandchildren, Jaime, (Helena) Gainesville, FL, Courtney, Atlanta GA, Amanda (Hercules, CA), Suzanne Neil-Place (Kevin) Cortland; great-grandchildren, Micky Place and Samantha Place to be born January 13, 2011 who will miss knowing her great-grandfather. Predeceased by his father, Seymour Corington Arnold (Auto Accident 1932); mother, Katherine Wilson 1981; step father, Charles S. Wilson Jr.; brother, S. Edward Arnold; grandfather, Michael J. Drooney, who operated a Creamery on Conklin Ave. for 30 years until 1937. "I served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and trained on B-17s , B-24s, B-25s, B-26s and B-29s. "After the war I studied at Triple Cities College of Syracuse U later Harpur College of Liberal Arts. Worked for RH Donnelly Corp (telephone directory advertising) Spencer Electric as Manager (treasurer) and Sears Roebuck for 27 years retiring in 1987 from the commercial-industrial division covering much of NY State and Northern PA. Member of the Improved Order of Redmen (Oneactah Tribe 104) as trustee and Chief of Records 50 years - member of Endicott Lodge 925 (Odd Fellows) as trustee and treasurer for 20 years". "Grampie" enjoyed driving to Turning Stone Casino, going the Greek House on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning for breakfast; having lunch meetings at the Pantheon Restaurant with his Lodge brothers talking about politics, old times, when he loved to play golf, poker and go on vacation with his family. His vast knowledge of historical facts, he could tell you all the presidents of the United States, in order and the dates of their terms. Everyone who met Walt, immediately liked him, especially for his dry sense of humor. The Family wants to thank Lourdes Hospital Staff for their kindness this past week, especially Dr Amin, RNs Tom, Katie from Seton 1, and ER nurse Nichole, who gave us another week with our Dad. Visiting hours at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home 300 E Main St., Endicott, NY on Saturday Jan. 8th from 1 - 3 PM, there will be an Honor Service at 2:45 PM by his Red Men brothers with the Funeral service at 3 PM; Pastor Wayne Sibrava, Living Water Baptist Church, Owego, NY officiating. Burial service will be Monday, January 10 at 11 am at Riverside Cemetery, Mersereau Ave Endicott, NY in lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to CHOW, 3 Otseningo St., Binghamton, NY 13903.
