Obituary of Anne H. Brown

Anne Hackling Brown Of Endicott Anne Hackling Brown, 93, of Endicott, passed away at Ideal Nursing Home in Endicott, NY on March 16th. Anne was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa on July 10, 1917, and moved to Endicott in her late 20's. Anne retired from Spencer Swartz Home Furnishings after working there for 25 years. Anne was very active in Endicott spending 50 to 70 hours per week volunteering at a number of agencies in the Southern Tier. Her spirit and generosity contributed greatly to the betterment of her community. Among her accomplishments were 30 years with the American Red Cross, on the board of directors of the AARP, local chapter, served 2 five year terms as president of the library's board of directors, many service commitments to not for profit United Health Services. She served on 3 separate boards, Ideal Senior Living Center, Housing Corporation and Endowment Foundations. Anne's other volunteer activities included Meals on Wheels, ecumenical activities with her Roman Catholic Parish, including the United Methodist Homes for the aging, the EJ Cooperation Thirty Year Club, and the Endicott Elks Club Auxiliary. Anne was full of compassion; boundless energy and unselfish giving that have touched many through the years. She received the Service to Mankind award from the Endicott Sertoma Club in 1992. She is predeceased by her husbands, Stewart Brown and Robert Hackling. Anne is survived by her son Carl Hackling and his wife Ellen of Greenville SC, her grandchildren Holly Harney of Havertown, PA and Carl and Anne Hackling of Suwannee, GA and five great grandchildren Memorial services will be held at Saint Brendan's Catholic Church in Cumming Ga. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the George F. Johnson Memorial Library, Endicott NY. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ideal Nursing Home, Violet Court, for their dedicated care and commitment to Anne's well being.
