Obituary of Walter R. Gregg

Walter R. Gregg Walter R. Gregg, 82, of Apalachin, NY, passed away March 29, 2011 with his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Lou, by his side. He was the son of the late Emmogene and Alfred Gregg. He graduated from Johnson City High School. Walter was in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Radar Mechanic. He became employed by IBM in 1953 on the punchcard line and eventually worked on projects such as Memory Modules, Univac, Space Shuttle and US Navy LAMPS project, retiring in 1983 as a Test Equipment Staff Engineer / Scientist. During his retirement, he enjoyed being a grandfather and was a regular at many soccer matches and in the pit crew at stockcar races. Many people remember Walt's stories from the times they stopped along Pennsylvania Ave to buy yard woodcraft and fresh vegetables at his roadside stop. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Steve Brusso of Chandler, AZ; son, David Gregg of Owego, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Andrew Hoffman of St. Pete Beach, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Mary Ann Gregg of Apalachin, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Julia Gregg of Tully, NY; brother, Marvin Gregg of Whitney Point, NY; sister, Thelma Belles of Lisle, NY; brother, Roy Gregg of Johnson City, NY; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Harold Gregg. Funeral Services for Walter will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11 am from St. Bridgid Parish, St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Friendsville, PA with Father Casimir Stanis officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Thomas Cemetery in Little Meadows. The family will receive their friends on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home 6519 State Route 434, Apalachin.
