Obituary of Warner Stillings

Warner Everett Stillings Endicott: Warner Everett Stillings, born on May 26, 1925, passed away on May 21, 2011 at Good Shepherd Village Health Care Center at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Mildred Stillings; sister and brother-in-law, Verona and Ray Stull; brother, Oakley Stillings; grandson, Jason Stillings; father and mother-in-law, Forrest Long and Maryon Long Herzog. He is survived by his loving wife, Patti; children: son, Larry (Carol) Alabama and their children Ken, Missy and Tricia Stillings and Shawn Filbert, son, Richard (Robin), Florida and their children Melody (Gary), Sara, Emily and daughter, Cathy (Steve) Windsor, NY and their children Trudi (Dave), Steve (Nicole) and Patricia. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Joseph, Ana, Tyler, Justin, Caitlyn, Gregory, Lucas, Haley, Noah and Gigi. Also surviving is his sister, Glenda (Robert) Cottrill, New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann (Steve) Vlasak of Florida, sister-in-law, Lupe Stillings of California; and many nieces and nephews. Warner graduated from Westover grade school in 1939 and Union Endicott High School in 1943. He joined the Navy at 17 for three years and installed radar on ships in England during WWII and was aboard ship off Omaha Beach on D-Day. Upon returning from the service in 1946, Warner was employed by NY Telephone and then by IBM in Endicott and Owego in 1951. He retired after 28 years in 1980 as an advisory engineer. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, IBM County Club and the Binghamton Boat Club and was president of the BBC for two years. He and his wife Patti enjoyed sailing and camping on Cayuga and Seneca lakes from 1963 - 1990. In 1990 they bought their first motorhome and traveled every fall for the next 17 years up and down the east coast to visit children, grandchildren and friends and to deliver Christmas presents. They camped during the spring and summer with friends and family and traveled mostly in NY State and PA. They would enjoy three different Fleetwood Bounders over those years before "retiring from the road" in 2007. Warner also enjoyed music (played piano, organ and flute), puttering around the house (he was a good carpenter), and his computers. He wrote educational programs for Kopernick Observatory when it was first built, and wrote a good many of his own programs for household and financial activities. He enjoyed a good game of chess with his sons and grandsons, and loved card games with friends and family (he was always changing the rules!). Warner was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Endicott for 51 years, and part of the usher team in the early years. The family wishes to thank dear friends Gary and Jennifer Hunt, Babs and John Hinton, Ede Sornberger, Mary and Dave Jenkins, Helen and Jim Jephson, Don and Cozie Butterworth; neighbors, Don and Kathleen Bouchard and Eric and Mary Lou Carter and, of course, all of our children, for all of their help when it was needed during Warner's illness. We appreciate all the many prayers, cards, visits by pastors and deacons and food brought to us by church members and friends. Arrangements are by Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 26th, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 29 Grant Ave., Endicott, NY with Warner's pastors, Jan and Tim Devine officiating. Visiting hours will be at 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Vestal Hills Cemetery with Military honors. If you wish, please consider a gift to the First Presbyterian Church of Endicott Memorial Fund. Flowers should be delivered to the church.
