Obituary of John M. Schmidt

John M. Schmidt Apalachin: John M. Schmidt passed away May 31, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Kathryn Schmidt of Newbury, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kathleen, and his three children and their spouses, Laura (Brian) Montini, Christopher Schmidt, and Timothy (Kristy) Schmidt. He is also survived by his grandson, Brandon Montini and a new granddaughter who is due within the week. John was endlessly devoted to his family and friends and was always willing to help solve any problem with his words of wisdom and stories of his life experiences. John was a long time employee of IBM and Lockheed Martin in Owego and loved his work as an Avionic Systems Program Manager. He was strongly dedicated to his colleagues and coworkers and took great pride in being able to say that through the course of his career, he worked in the plant during five different decades. John was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and never gave up hope that they would one day regain their glory. He also loved being outdoors mowing the lawn, cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood, and spending summers with his family at the cottage on Owasco Lake. A funeral service for John will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc.., 300 E. Main St., Endicott, NY. The Rev. Susan E. Davis, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Endicott, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin, NY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions in John's memory to the American Cancer Society , Broome County Chapter, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
