Obituary of Leland B Loveless

Leland B. Loveless Vestal: Leland B. Loveless, Jr., 90, of Vestal, NY passed away peacefully at his home early Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents, Leland B. Loveless, Sr. and Florence (Potts) Burell; his wife Katharine (Jones) Loveless; five sisters, Frances Snyder, Mary Goddard, Jeraldene Foster, Catherine French and Barbara Arragon; one brother, Charles and two brothers that died in infancy; two sons-in-law, Arthur Smith, Sr., and Joe Lukasiewicz. He is survived by three daughters and one son, Dorinda and Gerald Grassi, Endicott, NY, Diana Lukasiewicz, Johnson City, NY, Donna Smith, N. Syracuse, NY, Loren Loveless and Gail Conklin, Owego, NY; one sister Virginia Steenberg; ten grandchildren and 19 + 1 great grandchildren. He was born in a house in Endicott in 1921 and raised in Vestal where he attended a one room schoolhouse through eighth grade. He was veteran of WWII and served in the Philippines with the 5th Army Air Corp. from 1942 to 1945 when he came home to his wife and twin daughters. He worked for 38 years at IBM as a machinist. He maintained an apiary in the 1950s and sold some of the honey he extracted from the hives. He enjoyed carpentry, yard work, fishing and mechanics (he could hold a car together with chewing gum and bailing wire). He also enjoyed gardening and grew many fruits and vegetables. He grew and sold some of the best strawberries in the Triple Cities for many years. Funeral services for Leland will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, July 15, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal. The Rev. Michael K. Willis will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Vestal Park Cemetery.
