Edward A. Hogan
Apalachin: Edward A. Hogan, age 80, entered into his eternal home on August 4, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his wives, Mary Lou Hogan and Barbara Hogan, whom he cared for so tenderly during their prolonged illnesses; his parents, Edward and Julia Hogan; and his brother, Richard Hogan. He is survived by his children, Mary Ann (Dale) Sacharov, Pat (Steve) McRory, Peg (Ray) Rood, Ed (Carol) Hogan; his brother, Bill (Betty) Hogan; his step-children, Pat (Brice) Jackson, Marlene (Jim) Brazeal and Ted (Sandra) Hardenstine. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his best buddy, Mike Cobb, and all his friends at the Skylark and Vestal Nursing Center. Ed was a Navy veteran and a retired IBM employee. He will be most remembered for his musical talent. As a boy, he could be heard playing his accordion on the radio. As a young man, he was involved in 4 bands, including a dance band and became a church organist, a position he held for 25 years. He was best known for his volunteer work, playing his electronic piano throughout the Southern Tier at various nursing homes and organizations. Special thanks to Dr. Phillip Lowry, the staff of Robert Packer Hospital, Vestal Nursing Center, Lourdes Cancer Center Nurses and Lourdes Hospice.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, SR 434, Apalachin from 4-7 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity at St. Margaret Mary's Church, Apalachin, NY. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park following the mass. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
