Obituary of Betty Pakel

Norma Elizabeth "Betty" Pakel (1922 - 2011) Norma Elizabeth (Betty) Pakel, nee Chapman, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, 88, passed away peacefully on October 15. Born December 26, 1922, she was the daughter of Inez and Seldon Chapman. After meeting at a dance, she married Edward Richard Pakel on September 26, 1942. Betty lived her entire life in the Binghamton area. She worked for 25 years as the dairy manager for Grand Union, and in 1947 traveled to Long Island to open the first Grand Union store in Garden City. Later in life, she worked as an assistant manager for the Fanny Farmer Candy Company for 20 years. Betty was an incredible seamstress and was very crafty. She is survived by her sister, Jenny Hadley, sons, Edward (Diana) and Patrick (Diane) as well as grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Vaughn, Katie, John, and Michelle, and great-grandchildren, Kelly and Sean. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 12:30 PM at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc., 300 E. Main St., Endicott and at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 7 PM.
