Obituary of Frederick C. Heckman
Frederick Heckman (1926 - 2011)
Endicott: Frederick C. Heckman, 85, passed away on December 7, 2011. Born in Hazleton, PA on September 15, 1926 to Fred C. Heckman Sr. and Elizabeth Smith, both deceased. Fred graduated from Hazleton High School in June 1944. He served in the US Navy in WW II in the Pacific Theatre and fought in the Battle of Okinawa. After the service he attended Ithaca College graduating in 1950. Fred worked at WENE Radio, Endicott, WNBF-TV, Binghamton, WINR-TV and later for WICZ-TV for 32 years. He retired in 1990 and was inducted into the Southern Tier Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2009. Fred hunted and went fishing with his TV Buddy Bob Huckabone. He was a member of Square Deal Sportsmen for many years. He is survived by his daughter Roberta Rittenhouse and son in law Greg Rittenhouse of Vestal, a son Brian Bennett of Ewing, NJ. A Grandson Adam Rittenhouse and wife Sofia of Binghamton, granddaughter Morgan Rittenhouse of Ann Arbor, MI, grandson Scott Bennett of Levittown, PA, granddaughter Barbara Janiszewski of Colorado Springs, CO, a cousin Lynn Rodda of New Castle, DE, friends Millie Crandall, Liana Railsback, Karla Hill and Patty Hinshaw of Binghamton, also friends at Broome West Senior Center and the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club Guys, Hal, Don, Paul and Ed, also his boss of 32 years Gino Ricciardelli.
Funeral Services for Fred will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St, Vestal. The family will receive their friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
