Obituary of Frieda Marie Dollmetsh

Frieda Marie Dollmetsh Endicott: Frieda Marie Dollmetsh, age 93, of Endicott, NY went to join her husband, Harold, in Heaven on December 30, 2011. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Athanasia Linda Jeanne and Michael Worley of Kansas; her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Marie Dollmetsch; 5 grandchildren: Elena DeWolfe, Michael Paul Worley, Matthew Worley, Genevieve Brown, wife of Nathaniel Brown, Rebecca Dollmetsch; 3 great-grandchildren: Angelica, Aidan and Cassia Brown; and cousins. Frieda was the daughter of the late Frieda E. Cox Dill and Clive Lyon Dill, and sister of the late Clive Lyon Dill, Jr. She married Harold Dollmetsh on July 10, 1943, on Harold's three-day pass from the army. They were very happily married for over 60 years. Harold died in 2005. Frieda was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School. She also completed a post-graduate year at U-E and later took courses at Harpur College. She worked at Mclean's Department Store in the music department where she played piano from sheet music so that the customers could hear what they were buying. She later worked as a secretary at Endicott Johnson until Linda was born. While caring for her two lively children, she also was a telephone stenographer for Dr. Lamberson, medical examiner for compensation cases. She then became the secretary for St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Endicott, retiring after 20 years. She was known for being organized, encouraging, and discreet. She was involved in many activities at the church. Frieda and Harold both belonged to many fraternal organizations and were often elected to state positions. Frieda was also a musician who thoroughly enjoyed playing the piano and organ for fraternal functions and other events. She and Harold were avid world travelers. They visited many places including Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and every state in the USA except North Dakota. She loved spending time at the camp at Wanaksink Lake in the Catskills, writing poetry, swimming, taking walks, and baking huckleberry pies and Johnnycake. She enjoyed playing pinochle with family and friends, and Scrabble games between her and Harold were at tournament level. With her excellent memory she challenged the hardest crossword puzzles. She collected swans and knick-knacks from her many travels, each one holding special memories, and gave talks on her hundreds of travel slides. She delighted in spending time with the grandchildren and watching them grow. Frieda was a special, talented lady who could do many things. She touched our lives in special ways and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 12:00 noon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Ave., Endicott, NY. The Rev. John Martinichio will officiate. The family will receive friends at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main Street, Endicott, NY from 2:00 - 4:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
