Obituary of Peter Bongiorno

Peter (Pietro) Bongiorno Bongiorno,Peter Peter (Pietro) Bongiorno, 99, of Endicott, passed away on January 18, 2012 with his son by his side. He was predeceased most recently by his loving wife Rosa (Rosi) of Endicott, his daughter Laura Delaney (Laurenza Bongiorno) and son-in-law Michael L Delaney. He is survived by his son Frank (Joan) Bongiorno; his grandchildren, Michael (Dianna) Delaney, Daniel and Kenneth Delaney, Gina (Jason) Rader, Misty Bongiorno, Christian (Viola) Bongiorno; and his great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jena, and Joshua Delaney, Angela and Grant Rader, and Adrian and Maya Bongiorno, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews both in the US and Italy. For almost twenty years (between WWI and WWII) he served as a soldier and survived as a prisoner of war. Eventually he married his wife Rosa and immigrated to America in 1951 with her and their two children, Laurenza and Frank, to start a new and better life. In Italy he was a blacksmith and in the U.S he worked for Endicott-Johnson and Titchener Iron Works, from which he retired after 13 years. In addition, he used his craft to create custom wrought iron railings, fences, etc. with a signature style, many of which are still evidenced around the area, including the fencing at he and Rosi's final resting place. His passing is a great loss to those of us remaining, but a great celebration for those he has joined. Dedication: The history of our grandparents is remembered not with rose petals but in the laughter and tears of their children and their children's children. It is into us that the lives of grandparents have gone. It is in us that their history becomes our future.-Charles & Ann Morse (Per sempre nei nostri cuori e menti.) Forever in our hearts and minds. The family would like to thank the staff of Tulip Court at Ideal Nursing Home for his care over the last year. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 12 noon from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main, Endicott, NY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 AM until service time at noon, with internment at Riverhurst Cemetery to follow.
