Obituary of Robert Betts

Robert Betts Robert Betts, 89, of Vestal died April 6, 2012 of acute leukemia. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Janet; his three beloved daughters, Laurie Svoboda (Dan), Stacey Betts and Robin Cooper; his stepchildren, Diane Becker (John), John Robilotti (Holly), Paul Robilotti and Sue McGahan (Ogden); his sister-in-law, Jane Burgher (Brad); two brothers-in-law, Don Driscoll (Fran), Ron Driscoll (Melitta) and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He served in WWII, graduated from Harvard with a Master's degree in electrical engineering, and became the fiberoptic guru of IBM Owego where he earned numerous patents. During his lifetime he was a prolific reader, an avid skier at Greek Peak and Vermont resorts, loved boating on Cayuga, and could fix almost anything. He wished to donate his body to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, for education and research. There will be no calling hours or funeral and the family will hold private memorials at a later date. The family wishes to thank Lourdes Hospice and Broome Oncology for outstanding care during his illness. Arrangements are by the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc., Vestal.
