Obituary of Eugenie E. Trevitt

Eugenie Trevitt Genie Trevitt, 97, passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2012 at the Hearth at Castle Gardens, Vestal, NY. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James W. Trevitt, her son, W. Robert Trevitt and her brother, Robert Shipe. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joye Trevitt, grandchildren, Suzanne and Rod Moore, James and Donna Trevitt, great-grandchildren Aimee Moore, Allison Moore, Jamie Trevitt (Cody Brownell), Leslie Trevitt and one great-great-grandson Colin Brownell. Genie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lucille Shipe, nephew, David and Anna Shipe, niece, Barbara and Mike Mullin, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Ruth Ann Williams, Sarah Mullin, Marc and Robin Mullin, and Daniel and Terrlicia Shipe as well as many great-grand nieces and nephews. Genie was born in Mifflenberg, PA. on December 26, 1914. She grew up and graduated from high school in Oneonta, NY where she was active in sports such as volleyball. In her early twenties she worked at Breesee's Dept. Store. She often spent summers with her grandparents in PA, where she met her husband Jim on a blind date. They married after a romantic correspondence and lived in Sunbury, Carbondale, Shamokin Dam and New Castle, PA while Jim progressed thru his career as a newspaper reporter and editor. Genie trained and worked as a nurses aid during WWII. Genie was active in her church and The Order of the Easter Star (women's auxiliary of the Masonic Temple). The couple moved to Vestal, NY where Jim owned and ran the Vestal News. When they moved back to New Castle PA, the Trevitts owned and operated Trevleigh Kennels and raised and showed champion cocker spaniels. In their later years they moved backed to Vestal to be close to their family. Genie was a member of the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle where she participated in the women's Bible study group and the choir. Genie was always busy with crocheting and crafting. She was a talented artist and her paintings will be valued keepsakes by her family. Family and friends are invited to participate in a Memorial Service at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home at 300 East Main St, Endicott, NY at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 12th. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Keepsake Village, The Hearth at Castle Gardens, where Genie last resided for their kindness and superb service. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that memorial contributions be made to the Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad at 324 Myrtle St., Vestal, NY 13850.
