Leo G. Cook
On Sunday, June 3rd, Leo G. Cook, age 80, of Vestal, NY, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. Leo was predeceased by his parents, Claude and Mildred Cook of Greene, NY. Leo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nanda; and his five children, Susan and Rick Phelps of Hertford, NC, L. Gary and Valerie, Jeffrey and Myrna, Scott and Mary, David and Terri Cook, all of Vestal, NY. Leo has 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward and Esther Cook, Leroy and Jan Cook, Jack and Judy Cook; and three sisters-in-law, Addie Stowell, Johanna Lawton, Hilda Eckenrode; and several nieces and nephews. Leo was a very compassionate, loving, and honest man. He was an active supporter of local businesses and sports programs. He coached numerous youth programs throughout the area and his most rewarding experience was working with the Vestal Challenger League for over 20 years. Leo was very proud to support local charities by participating in the BC Open Pro Am for 32 consecutive years. He was a devoted fan of all his children and grandchildren's school and sport activities. Leo served four years in the U.S. Navy, worked as a supervisor of the Sun Oil Company and was an owner and operator of Cook's Tree Service for 43 years. Leo was very active in CNY Cursillo, St. Andrews, and. St Paul's Episcopal Churches, and during the winter months he attended St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Zephyrhills, FL. After retirement, Leo spent many hours on the golf courses in the Triple Cities and in Betmar, FL, where he and Nanda have their winter home. Leo will be remembered as a professional arborist, for his love of golf and his many dear friends while pursuing his love of the game both in New York and Florida, and his selflessness as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Most importantly, Leo was a loving partner for his wife of 60 years, Nunny.
Funeral Services for Leo will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 200 Jefferson Ave., Endicott with the Very Rev. John R. Martinichio officiating. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive their friends on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
