Obituary of Joan Cook

Joan Cook On Tuesday, June 12th, Joan Cook, age 71, passed away, one day after her 52nd wedding anniversary, after a struggle with complications of lung cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard and her three children, Allen, Jenna, and Daniel. She is also survived by her two brothers, James and David Bridgeman. Joan was born Joan Blanch Bridgeman, October 14, 1940 in Sodus, NY to parents Winifred and Raymond Bridgeman. When her family had grown, she returned to school to get a degree in accounting and she worked at two area credit unions until her retirement. During retirement, she helped with the publicity for the Phelps Mansion. Joan also enjoyed gardening and keeping the home landscape as nice as possible. She was an active church member teaching Sunday school and being a Sunday School Superintendent. Most of all, she enjoyed helping to feed others. She organized church dinners and was the food pantry director for the Park Terrace Food Pantry. She also volunteered her time serving in the kitchens of other churches, helping to feed the needy. We would like to especially thank the nursing and aide staff of South Tower 5 at Wilson Memorial Hospital for their compassionate and loving care of Joan during her struggle with her illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16th, 11 a.m. at the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time at 11. Burial will be at Vestal Hills Memorial Park following the service. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to a food pantry or the American Cancer Society . Arrangements are by the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, Vestal.
