Obituary of George C. Weisert

George C. Weisert Vestal: George C. Weisert, 88, of Vestal passed away suddenly Tuesday November 27, 2012. He was born August 9, 1924 in New York City. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Jean R Weisert in 2004. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Robinson of Vestal; two grandaughters, Emily Robinson and her friend Kevin Pacheco, and Amanda Robinson and her friend Joe Biscardi. George grew up in Darien, CT and attended NYU for one year prior to joining the Navy During WWII. He served as a radio repairman on a landing craft-Infantry, and saw service in the Mediterranean, visiting North Africa, Sicily, Naples, and Southern France. After the war he graduated from Tufts University, and went to work for IBM in Boston. He was employed by IBM for 34 Years, retiring from Glendale Labs in 1984. After retirement, George was very active in Literacy Volunteers, helping many newcomers to the US adapt to this Country. He was very active in the Maine Community Band for over 50 years. A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 12 Noon from the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc, 765 Main St, Vestal. The Rev. Kenneth Wood will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Friday from 11AM until service time at noon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Literacy Volunteer program of Broome-Tioga 130 West Main St, Endicott, NY 13760.
