Obituary of Richard J Hotaling

Richard L. Hotaling, Sr. Richard L. Hotaling Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Dick was born on September 11, 1930 and lived most of his life in Vestal. He attended Vestal High School, after which he joined the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, post WWII. Dick cherished his many years of hunting and fishing with his family in the Adirondacks. He raced stock cars at Glen Aubrey and 5 Mile Point, in the 1950s with legends such as Dave Kniesel. He enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, NY Giants and golf. Dick was employed as a machinist for 20 years at K. Hein Machines before leaving for IBM, from which he retired as a manager. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Millie Hotaling; his wife, Marilyn; and his daughter, Darcia Gottschall. He is survived by his children, Tammie (Dennis Hannon), Richard Jr., and Melissa (Ted Adams); his son-in-law, Robert Gottschall; grandchildren, Jeremy Gottschall (Sally), Jonathon Gottschall (Jennifer); great grandchildren, Joshua, Kaitlyn, Adam, and Michael; his sisters, Marie Canfield and Carol Cole; also many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to Lois Shaffer, Lourdes Hospital and Hospice. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Thursday December 6 at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home 765 Main St. Vestal. Graveside services to follow at Standing Stone Cemetery in Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in memory of our Dad and Brother. Dad told us, "Nothing lasts forever except the Lord and our salvation." We love you, Dad!
