Obituary of Harry C. Martin

Harry Christian Martin Vestal: Harry Christian Martin, 88, of Vestal, passed away at Wilson Hospital on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet P. Martin. He was predeceased by his sisters, Gertrude Hoyes and Myrtle Pabst; his brother, Abraham W. Martin; and his sisters-in-law, Audrey P. Krska and Marilyn J Withiam. Harry is also survived by his children and their spouses: daughter, Jaye B. Martin of Briarcliff Manor, NY; son, Scott P. (Tammie) Martin of North Chili, NY; and daughter, Holly C. (David) Potter of Dryden, NY; his grandchildren, Andrew Martin Chase (Briarcliff Manor), Caitlyn Jaye Potter (Dryden) and Joel Martin Potter (Dryden); his sister, Clara Hoyes of Forty Fort, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Harry was born in Minersville, PA, served three years in the South Pacific on the USS Robert L Howze during World War II, and graduated from Keystone College and Syracuse University (where he was also 1950 Athlete of the Year in baseball). He was employed for 32 years by IBM Corporation's Federal Systems Division in Owego. Harry served several terms on the Town of Vestal Zoning Board of Appeals, and was a vestry member, warden and Superintendent of Sunday School at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Endicott. Harry was a Mason for over 60 years at the Oriental Star Lodge No. 588, Peckville, PA. Harry was an avid bowler and loved to gift his paintings to family and friends and spend time at his summer home on Owasco Lake. He will be sorely missed. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Endicott, The Reverend John Martinichio officiating. The family requests no flowers but contributions may be made in Harry C.
