Obituary of Edwin Scotcher

Edwin R. Scotcher On February 11, 2013, we lost a gifted man who lived life to the fullest. To the end, he showed his joy for life through his love of song, with a wonderful smile and a twinkle in his eye. Ed was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, RuthAnn; his brother, Robert Scotcher; and his former wife, Jean Lockman Scotcher. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Scotcher Thrash (Kenneth); granddaughter, Kimberly Kunkel (Rob); great-granddaughters, Sarah and Lauryn; and long-time partner, Anita Frech. Ed was born and raised on the family farm in West Seneca, NY. He proudly served as a U.S. Marine during World War II and the Korean War. He attended Cornell Ag School, University of Redlands, CA, University of Buffalo, and Harvard around his Marine Corps. enlistments. His various jobs took him to Ohio, Massachusetts and back to New York for his career at IBM Owego, which he retired from in 1982. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, logging hundreds of trail (ADK 46-er #345), ski, and canoe miles in the U.S. and abroad. He led numerous trips and gave presentations on his travels. He was a life member of the ADK Mountain Club, Ahwaga Canoe Club and the Triple Cities Hiking Club. Ed was well known for his singing, dancing, love of NY Times crosswords, and playing tennis. We are grateful to the caring staff and volunteers of Castle Gardens/Keepsake Village, Willow Point Nursing Home/West Wing, and Lourdes Hospice. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 11am at Coleman & Daniels, Endicott. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service. In memory of Ed, please consider a donation to the Adirondack Nature Conservancy, PO Box 65, Keene Valley, NY 12943 or the ADK Mountain Club, 814 Goggins Rd, Lake George, NY 12845.
