Obituary of Stephen Fodor

Stephen (Steve) Fodor of Endicott Stephen (Steve) Fodor, 86, of Endicott, N.Y. passed away peacefully at home Saturday, January 10, 2009. Born in Angola, N.Y. in 1922, Steve was a veteran of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign during WWII, serving in the 9th Infantry Division, 39th Infantry Regiment during the Allies' North Africa and Sicily campaigns. Later, he went on to fight in some of the hardest fought battles of the war - including landing at Normandy on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was hit by a German artillery shell near the end of the war and spent months recuperating in an English hospital. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (two awards) and Purple Heart. Following the war, Steve worked for JC Penney and IBM Federal Systems in Owego until retirement. He was also a past active member of the Lions Club in Owego and American Legion Post 907 in Candor, where the family lived for many years. A devoted husband and father, his memory and spirit live on through his second wife of 34 years, Shirley; half-sister, Margaret Wall, Coda de Casa, Calif.; daughter, Stephanie Fodor, Santa Barbara, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Faith Fodor, Memphis, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Bradford Biegon, Leesburg, Va.; daughter, Pamela Fodor, Winchester, Va.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Tim Gargana, Fairport, N.Y.; grandchildren, Michael Fodor, Brent and Scott Roberts, Evan Gargana and Ellie Biegon; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his sister, Helen Knaus, Kansas City, Mo.; and his first wife and mother of his children, Joyce. Steve was a prolific greeting card and letter writer who always made family and friends feel special. He was also the master of the corny joke, silly puns and pranks - the memories of which will be passed on for generations. There will be no calling hours or funeral. Inurnment will be next to his mother and stepfather, William and Mary Nadge at Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca following a memorial service to be held on April 11th, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105, or a charity of choice. Steve will be greatly missed by all of his family and will live forever in our hearts and minds. D'une Vaillance Admirable. Anything, Anywhere, Anytime - Bar Nothing.
