Obituary of Addie Smith

Addie L. Smith Addie L. Smith, 83, of Zephyrhills, Florida and Endicott, NY passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 8, 2013. She was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer on January 23, 2013. Although her bout with this cancer was short Addie remained strong and steady up to the day she was called to the waiting arms of the Lord. Addie was predeceased by her husbands, Oakford Zane Smith and Arthur Stowell; her parents, Arie and Johanna Koerts; brother and sister-in-law, Arie (Sally) Koerts; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie (Gordon) Doody, Nelle (Carl) Testa; and brothers-in-law, Frances Lawton, Charles Eckenrode, and Leo Cook. She was also predeceased by a great granddaughter Rina Ann Weeks. Addie is survived by a son, Oakford Zane Smith Jr., his wife, Bonnie, Marietta, NY; a granddaughter, Danielle, her husband Mike; and great granddaughters, Isabella and Mia Weeks, all of Binghamton. Brother-in-law, Reynolds (Joan) Smith; sisters, Johanna Lawton, Hilda Eckenrode, and Nanda Cook considered by Addie not only her sister but a very special best friend. She was also survived by many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Addie was a registered nurse for 40 years. She started her career at Ideal Hospital, Endicott, NY in pediatrics, then moved to general duty at Ideal and Wilson Memorial Hospital. As she finished her nursing career she was a managing hospital nurse for UHS at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Once retired, Addie spent most of her summers at Otisco Lake, Marietta, NY and her winters in the Betmar Retirement Community in Zephyrhills, FL. She loved her home in Betmar and had a large circle of friends that she enjoyed playing golf, scrabble, cards, darts and monthly breakfast outings. She would travel north in time to enjoy her favorite time of the year, Spring. A time of new beginnings, flowers blooming, Daffodils being her most favorite and the return of Robins. Addie's visits were always highlighted by her opportunity to see and spend time with her two great granddaughters that her world revolved around. Addie has touched the lives of many and was truly an inspiration. By request of the family, a private burial will be held. Addie felt she lived a great life and requested a memorial of joy and celebration. This will be held at a later date for all to attend.
