Obituary of Katherine Gardner

Katherine A. Gardner On May 16, 2013, Katherine A. Gardner passed from this world. Born on May 11, 1948 in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of William Watson and Shirley Sloan Gardner. She is survived by a brother, James Ford Gardner (Chris); nephew Jason W. Gadner; nieces Rebecca K. Pecka (Martin Walling), and Heather A. Hodge (James). She is also survived by great nieces, Elizabeth A. Hodge, Meagan E. Pecka, Emily R. Pecka; great nephew, Kristofer W. Hodge; many cousins, and many wonderful friends. She taught 36 years, in Meriden, CT; Auburn, NY; Maine-Endwell, NY; Larchmont/Mamaroneck, NY; Stamford, CT, and Chenango Forks, NY. She was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School, ACC, Auburn, NY, SUNY Geneseo, NY, University of Bridgeport, CT, and University of Scranton, PA. Throughout her life she was a member of the West Corners Lioness for over 22 years and served at various positions including Secretarial, VP's and President. She was a member of the Eastern Broome Branch of NYSRTA, serving as Secretary and Co-President. She served on the Southern Board of the NYSRTA and was a member of the NYSUT Steering Committee, League of Women Voters, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 82. Kathy was a member of the Aglow Christian Women's Group and a Lourdes Hospice Sacred Hearts Watch volunteer with over 400 hours of dedicated service to others. She had a genuine gift for sharing smiles, hugs, handshakes, knowledge, poems, and prayers. She was a compassionate, joyful, and caring person who will be missed by her family and wonderful friends. She goes forward! Special mention should also be made toward the love she had for her two West Highland Terriers, Winky and Kiki, who provided her with much joy and love in her life. Also Karen, her friend of 40 years through thick and thin, and Carol, who provided much untiring care, help, and companionship through these past many months. Services will be held Tuesday May 21, 2013 at 11AM, at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc. 300 East Main St. Endicott, with visiting hours from 10-11AM, preceding the funeral. Burial will be in Maine Cemetery, Maine, NY at the convenience of the family. Donations to charity may be made to the Ocala Royal Dames for Pancreatic Research, lnc.
