Obituary of Wanda Vigeant

Wanda V. Vigeant (Stankiewicz) Vestal: Wanda V. Vigeant (Stankiewicz), beloved wife and mother, 82 years old, Vestal, NY, died Friday, May 17th, at Binghamton General Hospital. She was born October 12, 1930 in Lowell, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Grace Stankiewicz and brother, Richard Stankiewicz. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Henry B. Vigeant, Vestal; daughter, Karen V. Hage, Vestal; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Vigeant and Linda Ocasio, Vancouver, WA; and daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Evan Moss, Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Frank Stankiewicz; her close friend, Gloria Soovajian, Vestal; and her daughter of the heart, Lorraine Dias, Corning, NY. Wanda graduated from Lowell High School, Lowell, MA. In her younger years, she was known as quite the fashion plate and loved singing in the Frederick Chopin Choir at St. Casimir's Polish National Catholic Church, Lowell, MA. She met her husband at age 6 when they played together as neighbors. They met again years later, and she married Henry Vigeant on October 14, 1956. Together they enjoyed many happy times dancing the night away during the Big Band Era. When her children were young, Wanda took an active part in their schools, served as PTA President of Whitman Elementary School, Lewiston, ID, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and volunteered in the library and on the playground at Clayton Avenue Elementary School, Vestal. She was a mom to her core and was a second mom to all her children's friends. Her love of books and reading led to her job as a Library Clerk at the Vestal Public Library, where she happily worked for 37 years, retiring in 2011. She proudly served her country for over 20 years in the US Navy Reserves, retiring with the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. Wanda loved reading, flowers, and enjoyed feeding and watching birds year-round, especially her favorite crows. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 22nd, from 5-7 p.m. at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, NY. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23rd, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Vestal Park Cemetery, Main St., Vestal.
