Obituary of Elma Maas

Elma J. (Taylor) Maas Elma J. (Taylor) Maas passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at age 88. Born in Detroit, MI, she spent her teen years in Le Raysville, PA, then came to work at IBM in Endicott during the Second World War. Although she subsequently worked at the Endicott Daily Bulletin and Midway Lanes, career came second to her long, loving marriage to Kenneth Maas who predeceased her in 2006 after sixty years of adventure. She relished travel, especially cherishing their trip to Majorca and her visit to Japan as a guest of her dear friends, Hiro and Fumiko Hayashi. She was an amateur artist, creating both traditional art and whimsical cartoons. She enjoyed diverse other interests and, outgoing by nature, had many circles of friends ranging from local historians to members of the area Japanese-American community. She is survived by her son Jim and daughter-in-law Sandi, and a saddened array of her beloved backyard birds, sitting by a now-empty feeder. She would want the doctors, nurses and staff of Wilson Hospital to know how much she appreciated their efforts to help her. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 East Main St., Endicott. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Tri-Cities Opera.
